San Antonio, vibrant cities like Austin and epic spots in Houston and Dallas, it’s a state that’s got something for everyone. Though don’t be fooled into thinking that Texas is all about its cities! There are a heap of the best beaches in Texas dotted all across its coastline that you really can’t miss.
Plus, nearby, you’ve got Indianola Beach Park if you want a much larger stretch of sand.
Just shy of (you guessed it) Galveston, Galveston Beach is one of the more popular but still one of the best beaches in Texas to visit. It’s all totally accessible and easy to visit by car.
1.) Boca Chica Beach
One of my favourite areas has to be around Isla Blanca Beach. Not only is it totally blissful, but there’s also ample parking (which is an absolutely amazing thing on weekends).

Another family-friendly beach in Texas is South Padre Island Beach. Nestled right next to the border with Mexico, South Padres Island is probably the most southerly beach you can visit in Texas.
2.) Padre Island National Seashore
So, to make sure you make the most out of your time (and don’t get bogged down with researching), I’m sharing a few of the coastal gems in Texas you won’t want to miss.
If that’s not a win, I don’t know what is!

The quieter part of the island (away from Port Aransas Beach), Mustang Island State Park is a stunning place in Texas to visit.
Of course, you’ve got all the restaurants and beachfront spots to enjoy, but the beach itself is what it’s all about. For a slightly quieter area, head to Stewart Beach – though, you won’t get quite as many options for foodie spots here.
Also, if you’re an early riser, Boca Chica Beach is one of the best places to watch the sunrise.
3.) Bolivar Beach
Getting peckish? Head to Blackbeards for their fried shrimp and takeaways. Totally informal and so delicious.
Boca Chica Beach is the right place for a totally laid-back and chilled trip to the Gulf Coast of Texas. Nestled within Brazos Island State Park it’s one of the best beaches in Texas to visit that’s got something extra, too!
It has a crescent-shaped stretch of sand which is popular with families and easy to include without beach spots on Mustang Island and Padre Island.
The thing I loved most about Magnolia Beach is that it’s much less crowded than some of the other spots. This might be due to some visitors preferring more popular spots with more amenities – but I just love it.
This makes it a great spot to visit if you’re travelling with your furry friend. That being said, always make sure you have them on a leash to be considerate of other beachgoers.
4.) Surfside Beach
Over the years, we’ve visited some of the best places in Texas on road trips and we’ve always totally loved our trips here.
Honestly, it’s the kind of place that’s great for kayaking, swimming and windsurfing – as long as you’re a pro at this. Remember, the waves and currents can be strong here.
Less than an hour’s drive from Houston, Surfside Beach is a totally tranquil spot to visit if you’re fancying a getaway from the city.
Around 1km long, Rockport beach is one of the best beaches in Texas that’s perfect to visit when driving between Corpus Christi and Houston.
Not too far from Corpus Christi, Padre Island National Seashore is a long ‘spit’ of an island that’s totally beautiful to visit in Texas.
That being said, this long stretch of sand is well worth visiting if you’re looking for a totally quiet beach and picnics.
5.) Rockport Beach
Perched on the Bolivar Peninsula, Bolivar Beach (and Crystal Beach) is a seven-mile wonder and easily one of the best beaches in Texas that’s really close to Houston. In fact, you can easily go here for a long afternoon.
Magnolia Beach Park is easily one of the best beaches in Texas to visit that’s totally peaceful and chilled. Here, you can really unwind and explore the protected coastline that’s perfect for all the family.
We totally loved the informal, Jose’s Cantina. They serve up an amazing seafood platter.
You see, Sea Rim State Park is much more than just the beach itself. It’s the perfect area for birdwatching and paddleboarding which are so good. To have a great view of the park, make sure to hop on the Gambusia Nature Trail boardwalk.
This all being said, if you don’t fancy leaving Corpus Christi, head over to McGee Beach that’s right in the city itself.
6.) South Padre Island
Oh, and don’t forget to spend some time on the Pleasure Pier. Trust me, you will scream on some of these rides.
Southwest of Galveston, Surfside beach has heaps of activities which makes it a great spot to visit with friends and family. Not only that, Surfside Beach is often said to be one of the cleanest beaches in all of Texas.

To be honest, you can’t go wrong when visiting Port Aransas for its beaches. It’s a pretty chilled-out place, and being part of Mustang Island means that it’s got that mix of busier and totally quiet beach areas.
Plus, if you’re staying all day, head over to Sharkies On The Beach. They have some tasty cocktails and it’s all totally informal.
7.) Sea Rim State Park
Now, it might be known locally for its fishing opportunities. This all means that the area around Crystal Beach boasts heaps of fresh seafood which is offered in the nearby spots to eat.
Now, due to their pretty big size, Bolivar Beach and Crystal Beach are less crowded than some other spots in Texas. This all makes it an ideal place if you’re wanting a more chilled beach trip.
8.) Galveston Beach
Designated as a Blue Wave Beach, Rockport Beach is a gem to visit and a totally gorgeous stretch to enjoy.
Trust me, even though Corpus Christi is near the beach, there is no sign of it when you reach the place.
Once here, head out exploring paddling trails, bird watching, and so many more. Another best thing about this beach is that it is dog friendly.
That being said, there is a visitor centre that’s always worth checking out to see local conditions. Plus, you can learn about local wildlife, and park rangers can tell you the conservation efforts they have during public sea turtle hatchling releases.
9.) Port Aransas Beach

Best for wildlife spotting, Sea Rim State Park is considered one of the areas and best beaches in Texas to visit where you can stay for a long weekend.
Aside from swimming and sunning, Mustang Island has a lot more exciting activities than you and your family or friends for a chilled-out day on the coast.
Now, Just remember, Boca Chica Beach (including Del Mar Beach) might be quite quiet in terms of facilities. I mean, you’re not going to find piers, beach bars or restaurants nearby.
11.) Mustang Island State Park
You see, just shy of Boca Chica Beach is the SpaceX Launch Facility which is pretty epic to see.
Not only that, the shallow and calm water of Rockport Beach makes it quite protected from swells, especially when kids are around.
Once here, you can stroll the long stretch of beach and try out activities like kiteboarding, jet skiing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. Just be sure to always listen to local, expert, advice and never venture out in rough conditions.
Alternatively, for some grub on the beach, head on over to Beach Front Deck Bar and Grill. Their catfish is so good!
Have an amazing time visiting Texas!
Oh, and one of the easiest ways to access the beaches at Mustang Island State Park is via access road two. This will get you right onto the beach in no time at all.
